Triptych Poster
For this poster series, I chose t do it about motherhood. Being that I am a new mom, I love hearing about all the ups and downs that mom's face. Each mother experience is unique and influence by many factors like their support system, health issues, and cultural backgrounds. Motherhood is a beautiful thing, and I think it should be showcased a lot more.
Sketches
When coming up with my poster sketches, I wanted to show what all types of motherhood is like. In my initial idea I had three different concepts to go off of. The first was “motherhood the ultimate balancing act” the second was the” journey of motherhood” and the third idea was “it taking a village to raise children.” Each mother has a different experience and not all are the same. Which essentially made it hard for me to pick a specific piece to do as they all had good qualities. I ended up picking motherhood the ultimate balancing act.
Typography
I picked these two fonts because they have a certain simplicity to them. The minor little details you can see each typeface adds just the right amount of character.
Color Palette
I wanted to use bright colors but not sticking to one specific color palette. I wanted the color palette to represent the chaos and the beauty of motherhood. I incorporated pastel along with bold colors.
Draft 1
For my first draft, I wanted to show motherhood in its entirety. I created icons representing the everyday multitasking mother’s do. You have the physical load, the mental load and the emotional load is what I was trying to depict here.
Draft 2
For my second draft, I changed up the coloring to make it stand out and added more color. For the third poster I tried to incorporate the words as if they were a part of what the mom was feeling.
Draft 3
For my third draft, I changed up the layout of my design and added a call to action. I found this organization that specializes in mom groups, Mental health of mothers, and postpartum care. I also changed the font to sans serif because the serif font was taking away from the design
Final
My final design I touched up a bit on the thought bubbles and changed the words to actual emotion icons. I’m very pleased with how it came out and how it captured motherhood.
